Academic Policies

Absences

During the 10-week course, students may have a combination maximum of 2(two) excused absences and 2(two) unexcused absences (only 2(two) absences may be incessant). If any student exceeds the permitted number of absences, student will be subject to the Chief Managing Employee's discretion to be dropped from the class without any refund.  If a student has more than 2 unexcused absences, they will need to take a FINAL EXAM, and pass with a score of 70% or above, in order to receive their certificate.  The cost to take the FINAL EXAM is $75.00 (non-refundable).

During the 16-week course, students may have a combination maximum of 3(three) excused absences and 2(two) unexcused absences during the entire course of instruction (note only 2(two) absences may be incessant). If any student exceeds the permitted number of absences, student will be subject to the Chief Managing Employee's discretion to be dropped from the class without any refund.

 

 

Tardiness

During any class period (lecture/shop), attendance will be taken at the beginning and end of class. If a student is late to class or shop during the first 30 minutes, it will constitute as 1(one) tardy. If a student is late 2(two) times to class or shop, it will be counted as 1(one) excused absence.

Rules of Conduct

Symbol Job Training, Inc. adopts a strict "no cheating policy."  If a student is found cheating or aiding someone else in cheating, this will serve as a constructive notice to Symbol Job Training, Inc. of a student's withdrawal from the class without any refund of fees or tuition.

Safety Rules for the Machine Shop

1. Always follow the directions of your instructor
2. Safety glasses are required when in the shop area, whether working or not!!!
3. Shoes must be worn in any shop area. Anyone wearing sandals or open toe shoes will not be allowed to enter any shop area. The minimum footwear must cover the entire foot.
4. Do not wear ties,
loose clothing, jewelry, gloves, etc. around moving or rotation machinery. 5. Keep the floor around machines clean, dry and free from trip hazards. Do not allow chips to accumulate.
6. Machines must be shut off when cleaning, repairing, adjusting or oiling.
7. All machines must be operated with all required guards and shields in place.
8. A brush, hook or special tool must be used for removal of chips from the work area. Never use your hands.
9. Do not drink alcoholic beverages before or during work in the machine shop area.
10. In case of injury, no matter how slight, report it to the shop instructor immediately!!!

Criteria for the Issuance of Certificates

Each student must successfully complete the full course of instruction for which he/she is registered with a grade "Pass", equivalent to "C" or better.
